Robert D Peck (Bobby) was born on August 19th, 1948 in Kadoka, South Dakota. He was the 7th of ten children born to Gib and Lucile Peck. He spent his childhood on the family ranch near Norris, SD. He graduated from high school in Hot Springs, but attended grade school at Berry School on Corn Creek and Bennett County High School for most of his high school years.

He began a career as a thoroughbred jockey when he was 14 when he first went to work for Rusty Becker. He then went onto be a successful thoroughbred jockey. According to a close friend of Bobby's, when he first started riding, of course, not many trainers knew him, but within a short week he had won about 8 races, which made many trainers, take notice. When he was 16 he won the Miles Park Derby at Miles Park on a horse named Hawkeye and his career took off. Bobby also set the park record at Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky. His riding career lasted for 7 years until a racing accident injured his back very badly. He was then honored to attain a position as Clerk of Scales at all Kentucky tracks including Churchill Downs and Keeneland Racetrack which he occupied for nearly 20 years.

He was most proud of his children, Donajean and Brian and his grandchildren, Zak and Emma. His son, Brian followed in his daddy's footsteps and also became a successful jockey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Lucile and his brother, Darrel. He will be missed by his children and grandchildren and his brothers, Neil (Sherry), Martin, SD, Clinton (Olivia), Rapid City and Louie (Donna) and his sisters Bonnie Fay Portwoood, Wheatland, WY, Billie Jo Larvie (Tony), Lander, WY, Cathy Peck, Rapid City, Ethel Whitcher (Jim), Scenic, SD and Elsie Meeks (Jim), Interior, SD and numerous nieces and nephews and friends from near and far. Bobby passed away on July 31st at the Bennett County Memorial Hospital.
