Ralph LaPlant passed away on September 20, 2012 at the Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Nebraska. He had just passed his 96th birthday on August 8. He was born in 1916 at Duenweg, Missouri. He married Alice Wrestler on May 20, 1938 at Iola, Kansas.
Ralph was a man of many trades, working as a cowboy, sheep herder, logger, mechanic, welder, and master woodworker. He loved to travel and he and Alice spent time in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona. He finally retired to Crawford, Nebraska. He was the oldest resident of Ponderosa Villa for one week this summer and he took much pleasure in that. He enjoyed joking with everyone and the staff and the other residents were very fond of him. During his stay at Ponderosa he recorded his memoirs and his daughter Phyllis typed them and had his book published. He and his family were very proud of it.
In his book, he had written, “If I can keep my physical and mental faculties and my humor, maybe I’ll make it to 100, then Bye ya’all!!” He nearly made it.
