08/29/2012 - Mary Dannar
Mary Carrie Dannar, 86, of Chadron, NE, died Wednesday, August 22nd, at Crestview Care Center in Chadron.
She was born November 26, 1925, in Norden, NE, to Holly Carl Carlson and Frances Adelia (Cannon) Carlson. As a young girl she lived with her family of two sisters and three brothers in Norden and later moved to Chadron where she graduated from Chadron High School in 1943.
On March 21, 1954, she married George C. Dannar in Chadron. In June of 1965 they adopted two sisters Kathy Kersey and Colleen Williams.
Throughout her lifetime Mary worked as a secretary for the Burlington Railroad, Attorney Wally Crites, Federal Land Bank, and the Production Credit Union. She was known for her professionalism, work ethic, loyalty, superior skills, perfection at her job, and displaying finesse when dealing with difficult situations.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chadron for over 70 years where she served as an officer and served as a member on various committees for over 60 years. She was also an officer and member of the Dawes County Historical Society and Dawes County Museum, a golden member of Chadron RSVP, was on the Board of the 60 Plus Club, Chadron Senior Center, an officer and member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and BPW (Business and Professional Women) . She was also involved with the community dinners at holidays.
Mary’s loved to do family things such as family reunions or gatherings, camping, making coke floats in “real” coke glasses, and playing games with her immediate and extended family. She and her husband George used to take her nieces and nephews on vacations with them. She enjoyed cooking; especially making special candies and cookies at Christmas for family, shut-ins, and friends. She loved to walk everywhere regardless of the weather. She thought you just walked a little faster when the weather was inclement. It was nothing for her to walk 5 plus miles a day before it was the “in” thing to do. She loved to travel….by car or on bus tours. She also loved animals especially her dog Charlie who ONLY liked Mary.
Survivors include her husband George of Chadron; two daughters Kathy of McCook and Colleen of Washington; a sister-in-law Edna Carlson of Minden; brother-in-law John DeHaes; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
