“We are excited to kick off our 5th year of volunteer events. This year’s activities are centered around the one of our most requested topics, elements of garden design,” explained Lucinda Mays, CSC Public Horticulturist.
The February 23rd event will include a mini-lesson on the placement of trees in a residential landscape. There will also be time dedicated to sharing seed catalogs, seed swapping and packaging.
“We invite anyone interested in sharing their experience growing plants in the high plains, or those interested in learning more, to join us. Folks that have left over seeds from last year or seed catalogs are encouraged to bring some to share,” Mays concluded. Volunteers will go home with a hand-packaged packet of flower seeds from campus gardens. Families with children are always welcome and this workday is another great opportunity for kids and
parents to get involved.
The Campus Arboretum Volunteers host learn and work days on campus about every 6-8 weeks. The 2013 calendar features elements of design. relating to tree pruning and planting, plant placement in the spring and dirt work in the fall. These events are held on Saturdays from 9 AM to noon sharp. All events begin at the Sandoz Center on the CSC Campus and all ages and experience levels are encouraged to join us.
