11/15/2017 - Recycle Bowl Competition Ends
The fourth annual Recycle Bowl Competition is in full swing at Chadron Public Schools. This year’s event was kicked off by a Recycle Pep Rally hosted by Keep Chadron Beautiful and the Chadron State College Men’s Basketball Team. Students at Chadron Primary School shouted “slam dunk” each time they saw an item that could be recycled. Basketball players showed off their amazing skills by dunking the recyclables and the crowd cheered.
The Recycle Bowl is a national competition hosted by Keep America Beautiful through Wednesday, November 15 (America Recycles Day). Last year Chadron ranked number 10 in the country! Keep Chadron Beautiful also tracks weight of the recyclables for a local competition between schools. The Middle School won locally last year by collecting 2,542 pounds and was awarded all the money from the aluminum can recycling. This year’s prizes are better than ever thanks to CSC. The men’s basketball team will deliver new basketballs and spend a recess with the students. The winning students will also get tickets to watch a basketball game at CSC.
Community members can help their favorite school by dropping off corrugated cardboard, aluminum cans, plastics #1 and #2, paper, magazines, newspapers, phonebooks and printer cartridges. Bins are located outside each school for afterhours drop off. Questions regarding the Recycle Bowl, or any recycling needs, can be directed to Keep Chadron Beautiful.
